We tested and ranked the top math apps for kids based on curriculum depth, grade range, teaching quality, and whether kids actually stick with them. Here's what we found.
Try #1 Free for 48 Hours →The only math app that covers the complete K–8 curriculum across all major topics — from counting to pre-algebra — with voice-guided interactive lessons. Lumi explains every concept before asking kids to apply it, so they understand math rather than just memorizing procedures. Works on any device, no download needed, zero ads.
Prodigy wraps math practice in an RPG game — kids answer math questions to battle monsters. The engagement is real, especially for grades 3–6. Downsides: math only, heavy upselling on the free tier, and kids can sometimes game the system by rushing through answers.
IXL has an exceptional skill taxonomy for math — over 4,000 individual skills across K–12. It's the best pure practice platform for math. But it's practice, not instruction. Kids who don't understand a concept just get wrong answers. Best used alongside a teaching tool.
Khan Academy Kids is a fantastic free option for early math (Pre-K through 2nd grade). It's well-made, genuinely teaches, and is completely free. The limitation is grade range — once kids are past 2nd grade, they've outgrown it.
