Lumi Academy's commitment to rigorous, grade-level education for homeschool families
Lumi Academy's mission is to provide every child with a rigorous, joyful, and personalized Pre-K through 12th grade education that meets or exceeds the academic standards of traditional schooling. We believe that children learn best through engaging, interactive instruction that adapts to their individual pace — and that parents deserve transparent, documented evidence of their child's educational progress.
We are committed to the continuous improvement of our curriculum, assessment methodology and record-keeping, so families have clear documentation for reviews.
Lumi Academy offers a sequential Pre-K through 8th grade curriculum, and Lumi High (grades 9–12, included in the same plan) continues it through high school. Core subject areas:

Lumi Academy keeps a topic-level reference map from its lessons to nationally recognized standards. It currently matches about a quarter of lessons, mostly core math, English language arts, science and social studies topics. It is a reference for families and reviewers, not an independent alignment review:

Lumi Academy uses a multi-layered assessment approach designed to measure genuine understanding rather than rote memorization:
Every lesson contains respond steps where the learner must demonstrate understanding before progressing. Response types include: multiple choice selection, typed answers, picture identification, tracing/writing, and problem solving. Each response is scored in real time.
If a learner scores below 70% on a lesson, Lumi automatically queues a remediation pass of the same topic with a different instructional approach. This ensures concepts are genuinely mastered before the curriculum advances.
For Academy-track learners (ages 6+), Lumi uses pre-written lesson steps that assess higher-order thinking skills including explanation, application, and analysis — beyond simple recall.

Lumi is designed for children and teens from Pre-K through 12th grade, with accounts created and managed by parents or guardians. Our practices under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) are described in full in our Privacy Policy, including:
FERPA governs schools and districts that receive federal education funding. Lumi is sold directly to families, so FERPA does not apply to a family's homeschool use of Lumi. What we do with learner records:

Lumi Academy provides parents with formal documentation suitable for homeschool portfolio review, state education authority submissions, and co-op enrollment requirements:
Lumi Academy is not accredited. Accrediting bodies review schools, including their teaching staff and policies, rather than learning software on its own, so in a homeschool the parent remains the teacher of record. What is in place today:
