Virginia Homeschool Requirements (2025)
๐ Annual Notice of Intent
- File a Notice of Intent with your local school board by August 15 each year
- Must include the evidence of your qualification to teach (see below)
๐ฉโ๐ซ Parent Qualification (Choose One)
- Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
- Hold a Virginia teacher's license
- Use an approved correspondence course or distance learning program
- Provide evidence of ability to provide an adequate education (evaluated by school board)

Instructional Time
- Minimum 180 days of instruction per year
- No minimum daily hours specified by state law
๐ Annual Assessment (Choose One)
- Nationally standardized achievement test
- Portfolio of samples of the child's work evaluated by a person with a college degree
- Evaluation or assessment by a licensed teacher
- Results submitted to the local school board by August 1
